Because anyone with power likes to propagate their will among the masses. Also not many people like to live in a world where anarchy rules. The majority people want to live a good life and they get this without the crazy hooligans that would come with it in a anarchy filled world. A controlling government gives us peace of mind and with it we lose the very freedom we ought to have. I think the meaning to life is the spread of human intelligence. I don't believe in any higher power but I can't escape how incredible we are and how we must continue to strive to perfection. |

The idea that we're meant to spread goodness holds a value of sorts. I think that's what we should do to preserve life and peace, but I just don't think it's what we're here for.
Who said you couldn't? You can do anything you want. If I wanted to go outside and just kill the first person I see, I could do that. As I type this right now there is absolutely nothing stopping me from strolling outside my house and sticking a knife in someone's neck, or in my own neck. Just because there isn't a reason to life doesn't mean we should just go bat***** insane and start destroying everything. While we are here, we should probably preserve peace and all that, but I don't think there's some philosophical reason as to why we are here. Edited by Naruto-Gogeta, Jul 17 2012, 02:12 PM.

The blonde girl with the black lips turned to Valkyrie. "We know," she said. "We've seen the future. We know you're going to kill the world..." Release it Gohan! Release everything! Remember all the pain he's caused... The people he's hurt... NOW MAKE THAT YOUR POWER!!!! ![]() JOIN MY BOXING FORUM NOW! http://s4.zetaboards.com/Boxing_Forum/index/

Porpose of life is ones self you may find your porpose to believe in God and follow religious teachings in ones life or have no faith of a higher power and find your own new and improved road paved by you but we are immortal through the means of reproduction and that is the main goal to any primitive organism you should be gratefull that you don't die after sex like some other types animal and insect's really you should but in the end we die and i refuse to believe there isn't an higher power out there because it isn't just coincidence its my faith is my porpose so hate me if you will

I was in somewhat of an existential crisis when I made this topic I think I've come to the conclusion that the universe is so mindbogglingly huge that we are just a speck in a dot on a paper in an encyclopedia that is the first volume of 1 million volumes. Life doesn't really have a point... but as long as humans have the capacity to feel pleasure, and feel pleasure over helping others, I'm glad to abuse this ability. |

I would say the meaning of life is different for all people, some people try to reach goals and do great things. My personal meaning for life would be to make the best out of the short time we're all given. Maybe I'll try to settle down some day. I want to leave this life exhausted, having done everything I wanted with no regrets. |

I like to play videogames. I haven't had much time to do so recently (in fact I've not been able to play my PS3 for about three months now) but I still enjoy it. Why do I play? What is the purpose? Enjoyment. I like to play videogames, they're fun. There's no purpose to my existence, nothing in the world is stopping me from doing what I want, indeed I am doing what I want all the time. I want to be on this forum, I want to go to university so I am. I wanted to become president of the philosophy society at my uni, so I did. I want to go out with this girl I like so I'm going to ask her. If I don't get my way then there are various things to do. For example if the girl turns me down I could rage against her, I could try and force her to date me or I could accept it. Only one of these paths is of any use to me. Forcing her to date would be silly, I like her and don't want to hurt her, the relationship would be false and it would be painful for numerate reasons. Someone like me would come and kick my ***** shortly afterwards. I could rage against her but why? I get nothing, she gets hurt, I get hurt, everyone suffers. I could accept it, we stay friends, maybe I have another shot in the future and I enjoy the present. My actions are defined by what I want, my reactions are defined by what I want to continue doing. I would not murder if laws weren't there to stop me because I like humans and those I don't like (extraordinarily rare, totalling 2 individuals right now) can be dealt with in better ways than killing them. Thus there is no purpose to murder. I would not steal because I do not want to be stolen from, I would enforce the lack of stealing in the absence of law because of this. On top of that I think we should all work for our wants, I may not be any good at mechanics (I'm fairly rubbish) but I'm good at structure and systems and working things through and increasing efficiency. I work in this way to afford someone to help me in others. I don't see a purpose to life, I don't think that changes anything though, I've always been doing what I want, life is more complex than "Want X, take X", there are multiple factors intertwining, we strive to get what we want, you can't just take what you want all the time, it doesn't work. Someone will stop you, you'll get hurt or the thing won't be there. I want a unicorn. Doesn't make one appear. |

My goal in life is to be immortalized in memory somehow. Something that puts me in textbooks for the rest of my life. |

Instead of 1 million volumes, make it 999 quadrillion volumes and you've scratched the surface. I believe the purpose of life is what every organism is here to do: Survive We are a byproduct of the universe's development, IMO. |

In our own little world it might be to survive but looking at the big picture I think the meaning is to just exist. Just like other things in the universe have come and gone we will be gone too eventually. |

Biologically, life persists and evolves through reproduction. The ideal purpose of our choices is to be happy and spread joy. As Aristotle put it, happiness is the only end in itself. In other words, we don't seek happiness in order to accomplish something else. Life itself is far greater than the properties contained within the atoms which drive and fuel it, but that's not to say there is a supernatural element to it.
